There's this cute old lady L who lives nearby. She has multiple medical problems ranging from hypertension to recurrent urinary tract infections and has easily 3-4 specialist appointments every few months. I do see her occassionally for minor ailments and to top up some of her medications if she runs out and she's too lazy to go to the "far far away" specialist clinics to get them.
The thing that strikes me the most is how she is always so cheerful each time. We chit chat a little each time and sometimes also when we see each other at the coffeeshop too. She handles her diseases very well and is very compliant with her treatments. She's very amiable and not grumpy like most other elderly patients..hahahahhha.
Makes me wonder....will i be as happy as her when i grow old too?

Nice guy patient Z
It's been one year 10 months since i've started my own family medicine practice in central Singapore AMK.
It has been an enriching, fulfilling yet humbling experience thus far with many encounters with memorable patients as well as the many stressors coming with running a practice.
There are numerous patients who left lasting impressions. One stands out today, patient Z. He was one of the first few patients who came to see me when i first set up. Always very polite and we developed a friendly relationship. Z's medical problems were usually mild and interspersed with some personal issues occassionally. Things suddenly changed when Z discovered he contracted an incurable infectious disease. We dealt with his depression issues, family issues and finally he achieved acceptance. It was a rocky road for Z and i'm happy he's finally at peace with his multiple issues.
Today will be the last time i see Z as he is moving away to the farthest end of the island and switching jobs. (New job has a different company clinic) Z was really grateful today and brought a fruit basket. It's bittersweeet but i wish Z all the best. Sometimes events like this makes the crappy job a little more worthwhile. :D

Reading
Recently have been bitten by the reading bug again, if there's even such a description. Was strolling around the hub during lunch hour and stumbled upon the newly opened Popular bookstore. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the latest installment of Artemis Fowl has been published. Also there was an offer package on all 3 books of The Mortal Instruments written by Cassandra Clare.
Apparently on Imdb, there's news that The Mortal Instruments are going to be made into a movie just like Harry Potter!! Also, Lily Collins has been cast as the lead actress playing Clarissa Fray while Twilight actor Jamie Campbell Bower has been cast opposite her to play Jace Wayland her Brother...and possibily incestious lover! Seems like its going to be really great.
Transformers 3 was awesome too! Thing is i felt they should have focused more on the transformers instead of focusing on the soldiers running around with guns and grenades. Also....BRING MEGAN FOX BACK!!
okie..back to work..

King's speech
Oscar season has arrived, albeit late as usual in sunny Singapore. Been trying to watch the movies either on DVD or in the cinemas.
King's speech was thoroughly enjoyable! A simple premise of a king trying to overcome his stammering issues with some help. Colin Firth truely deserves his Oscar win! The movie also made me find my old book on the British royal family and give it a flip. They have interesting lives that make good reading!
Black Swan. Natalie Portman. *heart heart* tehehehehhehe.
Caught Unknown as well with teddybearwife. Yeah i know this isnt an "Oscar movie" but it hell was a fun and adrenaline pumping movie to watch. I do prefer Liam Neeson in "Taken" though, he should be more badass chopping people's neck and breaking some bones!!
Trying to find time for True Grit and Never let me go. The book was great and i hope the movie is to. Gonna be a sad sad movie though...

Ramen at 2am
On a recent night cycling trip, Yapster brought me to this little ramen outlet tucked away in a corner of Orchard plaza. The shop is Ken Noodle House and it really seems like a carbon copy of those little eateries you see in movies with the 1980s deco and with the radio blaring beatles hits in the background on infinite repeat.
We had their tamago for appetiser which was surprisingly good as they laced it with roe to give it an extra tangy flavour. Yapster had the standard pork base soup ramen while i had the cold noodles. The pork based soup wasn't too oily and had enough flavour without being overbearingly salty. I particularly like their noodles which are more "al dente" ala pasta rather than those soft soggy ramen at most other noodle houses.
2 weeks later teddybearwife and teddybearmom went along to try it and they absolutely loved the place and ramen too!! Thinking of organising another supper outing there soon!!

Cat-doc
Resident cats.
There are some strays which always loiter and live around a particular area. Around my place there are 2 such "resident" cats. They took awhile to warm up to me. It used to be them running away to hide when i was a mile away, but now they just stare at me when i walk pass them.
Sometimes they pop by to "visit", staring in from the glass door and peeking at what we are doing inside.
I've given them personal names.
One is "Mr meow meow" - as it always meows when i walk pass.
It's good buddy is called catdoc.....cos i just like that name.
They hang out beneath the goods truck from the electrical store during rainy days and laze around near the tree during sunny ones. They also curl into a massive ball together at night when they sleep.

Optimism
Things have been looking up and good at the work place recently.
Getting used to the running of things and the regulars.
One issue marring this is the case of the missing elixir....hmmmm....suspicions abound.
Looking forward to the event this weekend and the excellent meal ahead!
